Hair and Body Product Reviews

Hey all! I've been experimenting with some new hair/body products within the past few months so I thought I'd share some of my thoughts on them. I'd appreciate any recommendations because I'm always looking for new products to improve my skin because it's so dry. :( Ok, here they are...

Nivea Touch Of Water Lily Hydrating Shower Gel
This is a great body wash. Smells good, lathers well, it's non-greasy, and actually keeps my skin hydrated. I suppose it's the sunflower oil beads that make the magic happen. Luckily, my mom buys them for only $2 each at her local DVO and ships them to me. Go pick one up for yourself and get your man the lemongrass one, it smells amazing!

One 'n Only Argan Oil Restorative Mask

I thought I liked this at first, but after about 4 washes I noticed that it felt more like it was putting a waxy coating on my hair rather than getting a deep conditioning. It smells good, but I didn't think it worked very well. It's very disappointing, because most products made with Moroccan oil are extremely moisturizing. The regular One 'N Only conditioner works 20x better than this, so I'll be sticking to that instead.

Kenra Shine Spray

This product does in fact make your hair shine...but in a no-fun -greasy kind of way. I like that it comes in a can rather than a plastic bottle because I feel like I can get more control over the amount of product I put in my hair.  I followed the instructions on the can, and sprayed it 8-10 inches away from my head and it still left my hair with grease spots. I'm assuming it works best on thicker hair?

Alberto Vo5 - Kiwi Lime Squeeze Clarifying Shampoo

This shampoo does exactly what it's meant to do. It eliminates build up from hard water and hair styling products. I use it once a week, followed up by a deep conditioning treatment so I'll stop losing so much hair, and it will be easier to style. Surprisingly, it has worked wonders with my hair. It's now bouncy, lighter, and shiny. It amazes me how wonderful this is for only $1! Smells great too!

L'oreal Everstrong Hydration Conditioner

I know I can always come back to this conditioner when all the others fail. I've been using this, along with the reconstruction conditioner, and the EverPure moisture one, and I honestly can't tell the difference between the three. It feels like they all have the same formulation just different names and packaging. They condition really well and easily spread evenly/thoroughly through the hair. The only downside is the smell. What kind of lunatic mixes rosemary with mint?...seriously...the smell is awful and it LINGERS. It will remind you of your grandmothers foot cream...

Clean & Clear Morning Burst Fruit Infusions Hydrating Cleanser- Pineapple, Coconut & A├žai

This is a great cleanser! I actually had less breakouts when I switched to this face wash. It smells delicious, it has cute packaging, and most importantly, it doesn't dry my skin out like most oil-free facial cleansers do. I definitely recommend this to anyone with combination skin.

Mariah Carey's Lollipop Bling Perfume- Ribbon
The smell of this perfume is hard to explain. It smells like a mixture of fruit, vanilla, and lavender but fruit is the most prominent one. If Paris Hilton's perfume (the pink and black one) and Britney Spears Fantasy had a baby, this would be it. It lasts around 6 hours on me, depending on how much physical activity I get. I recommend it to anyone who loves candy/fruity scents. I can't wait to try Honey from the Lollipop Bling collection.

Revlon Tweezers/New Years Makeup

Revlon The Designer Collection Slanted Tweezer- $5.96

Do not be fooled by the the pretty design on these tweezers. They suck, big time. Also, never settle for the cheapest pair like I did. I've been through many $1-$5 tweezers and they were just awful. I was hopeful about this Revlon one because they generally make decent products. Sadly, this one was a fail. Sometimes cheap tweezers like this with slanted tips are very sharp, so they can scratch your skin or cut the hair instead of pulling it out by the root. This can become a problem, especially if it's cut very close to the surface of the skin, because then it can become nearly impossible to grab on to the hair. On the plus side, since they are sharp, thin, and very angular, they work quite well with getting the hairs on the bottom inner portion of my eyebrows which I find is the most difficult area to remove hair from with a slanted tip because the hairs grow upwards. This makes it easier to work around the other hairs or push other hairs out of the way so you're only grabbing on to 1 hair as opposed to dull tweezers that sometimes grab 2-4 all at once. I think it really reduced my normal plucking time in that area because I could grab on to those pesky hairs that grow flat and upwards on my brow bone a lot faster. I realize that tweezers are all about personal preference and what works for you, but believe me when I say that these are absolute garbage. If you want to be able to pluck quickly and effortlessly, these aren't the ones for you. If you want a cheap semi-effective pair of tweezers, I still don't recommend these. There are similar ones sold for one third of the price that work the same way. Tweezers are definitely something you want to splurge on if you like to keep your brows nicely arched and neat. I'll stick with my Tweezerman...once I find it. lol!

Best Christmas Gifts for MOM

I've come up with a small list of makeup products any mom will love this Christmas! There was a bit of a delay on posting this because my laptop shit the bed, but enjoy!

Inglot Rainbow Eyeshadows

These eyeshadows are amazing, not only because they're of MAC quality, but they are matte, and you get 3 different shades in one! You can either buy the pots by themselves (w/out any packaging) for $7.00 each, or buy them with the palette, but they are a bit pricey depending on how many pots you want in each palette (inglotcosmetics.com) There are many browns and neutrals to choose from (which most moms will love) and I love that they have an ash toned one (perfect for cool skin). I'm praying that one day UD will release an all matte Naked Palette...oh, how we were fooled with the new release of Naked 2.  Having too much shimmer on your eyes can emphasize wrinkles, and an all matte palette is nearly impossible to find. So why not make your own? :D

Freedom System Palette 2 Eye Shadow Square (empty 2 pot palette)- $6.00

Freedom System Eye Shadow Rainbow- $7.00 ea

IMO, 6 matte shadows for $20 is a pretty decent deal. You really aren't going to find anything as unique as this. The shipping and the palette itself is kind of a rip, but since it is a gift, you want it to look nice and packaged well. I bought my mom 116 and 117. For swatches, go to http://www.xsparkage.com/?p=3904#more-3904

NYX Megashine Lipglosses- $3.75 ea

These cost LESS than $4 each at Beautyjoint.com. With a wide array of colors which are highly pigmented, these are by far my favorite lipglosses, especially for the price, and they are definitely my HG lipglosses. These shades are a must-have and they are a bang for your buck! The cherry scent is a bit much for some people but I like it, it makes me feel like I'm 5 years old. lol

ELF Cream Liner- Coffee- $3

I think a brown or gray eyeliner is the way to go for someone with mature skin because black can look harsh and scary. This cream liner is pigmented pretty well, and applies pretty evenly. Coffee is quite rich and looks pretty natural on the lash line. Only $3 at target and eyeslipsface.com.

ELF Studio Angeled Eyeliner Brush- $3

Unlike most eyeliner brushes with a bent tip, this one has very stiff bristles, which is better if you're working with skin that has more elasticity or if your cream/gel liner is drying up. I must admit that cream liner doesn't always apply evenly with this brush, (you gotta keep going over it sometimes for it to show up) but the lines can come out thinner, more precise, neat and I actually prefer it over the Coastal Scents one and the Sonia Kashuk one. They sell these at Target.

ELF Studio Daily Brush Cleaner- $3
If your mom uses brushes on a daily basis, she definitely needs to spot clean them. It contains alcohol that disinfects your brushes and removes most of the remaining residue on your brush by spraying it on the hairs, and wiping it on a towel after every application. Can't beat the price. Eyeslipsface.com. I haven't seen it at Target :(

Benefit Posietint or Benetint- $29
As we age our skin gets dryer and some of us get visible pores on our face. Cream blushes are great for dry skin but if you have pores on your cheeks, that will only emphasize them. The only solution I have found for that is a cheek stain. They work well on every skin type and can also be used as a lip stain. This one is a bit pricey but it should a VERY long time. The only downside to this product is that it's glass, so if your mom is ridiculously clumsy or blind, I wouldn't recommend this. They also have a darker rosey shade called Benetint, check them out at Sephora.

MAC Fix+ Spray- $10

Love, love, love this stuff. This spray works excellent on dry skin because it gives you that amazing glowy/dewy finish. It's smells like an old lady, but it isn't overpowering, and it smooths over the flaky dry spots on your face. You also get a good amount of product for the price. MACcosmetics.com.

Smashbox Photofinish Primer- $36

FACT: Everyone that has wrinkles and pores needs a primer. It creates a smooth, silky canvas on your skin so your foundation/concealer doesn't settle into pores and fine lines. This formula is silicone based and can be quite heavy on the skin. Smashbox has several different formulas and sizes all of which you can get at Sephora or Sephora.com.

Cute Basket And A Bow??

Throw it all in a gift basket, maybe add her favorite perfume, decorate it, and top it with a bow! She can also re-use the basket for decoration or storage.
